Miss USA, Rima Fakih, a Story of Perseverance; Press Digs Dirt

Section:
Celebrity News: Miss USA, Rima-Fakih

Michigan Rima Fakih became Miss USA on Sunday but the newest Miss USA has had quite an interesting past. According to Katu, Rima Fakih is a 24-year-old Lebanese immigrant from Michigan who won the competition despite her Arab origin. She was born in Srifa, a village in southern Lebanon that was bombed during the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war. She moved to United States with her family in 1993 and she attended Catholic school. Despite the fact that she was born in a Shiite family, she was taught to celebrate both Christian and Muslim faiths. Now, with the winning of the Miss USA beauty contest, she has became a role model to thousands of girls all over the USA.

Numerous sources (including the link above) show newly-crowned Miss USA pole dancing at a gentleman's club in Detroit. The pictures show Rima in a blue tanktop, red shorts and high heels. Local radio station 'Mojo' was the sponsor of the women-only event on which Rima participated; the pictures have been on Mojo's website since the day of the event. Nobody paid any attention to them for three years. However, as soon as she was crowned Miss USA, the tabloids started to dig dirt about her. A similar thing happened to Carrie Prejean who got into trouble when the media discovered that she posed partially nude. A similar thing happened to Vanessa Williams. Both Vanessa and Carrie had to gave up on their crowns.

According to CBS News, not all Miss USAs with a colorful background have lost their crown. Miss USA 2006, Tara Connor, almost lost her crown due to her drinking and drug problems but after rehab she was able to keep her crown. So, we can only hope that Miss Rima Fakih will keep her crown.
