Body Found In Bay May Be Missing Boater Domingo Vilalta

Section:
What led to the disappearance of Domingo Vilalta remains a mystery

A body found in Biscayne Bay in Miami is believed to be that of 22 year old Domingo Vilalta, who went missing over the fourth of July weekend. Last seen around 8:20 p.m. on Sunday night partying on a boat off the Broad Causeway, no trace of Domingo has been sighted until a man's body washed up early Tuesday morning in Pelican Harbor.

Although WVSN claims that the police “have positively identified a body discovered Tuesday morning as that of a South Florida boater who went missing over the weekend," it is ultimately up to the medical examiner to confirm these reports.

His disappearance realized when the two party boats returned to shore, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and police boats stepped in to search the surrounding waters of Broad Causeway and the Bay Harbor Islands. At 11 p.m. the search was suspended for the night. The next morning they resumed, joined by Domingo's family on a private vessel, on a recovery mission.

What began as a confounding disappearance is now potentially a homicide investigation. Once believed to be so intoxicated that he fell off the boat, recent undaunted statements by Domingo's cousin, Jennexis Castranos suggest foul play: “They pushed him off the boat on purpose. They were having a discussion and they pushed him off.” No elaboration yet on just who “they” are, and so far, no arrests have been made.
