British singer, Annie Lennox, caused a bit of a frenzy on the internet on Wednesday when she appeared on 'Idol Gives Back' wearing a black t-shirt with the bold statement "HIV positive". Fans and media alike went straight to the internet to find out whether fifty year old Annie Lennox is actually HIV positive.

It turned out that the singer was using 'Idol Gives Back' and the t-shirt to raise public awareness of HIV and AIDS. The stunt was not the first of its kind, according to The Examiner and Annie Lennox wore a similar t-shirt on the same show just over two years ago.

The publicity generated all over Twitter and other social networking sites was apparently designed to keep HIV and AIDS high up in public awareness, but it also did a fabulous job of headlining the ageing singer. Searchers flocked to Google to find out if it was true, as word spread that Annie Lennox had HIV, but the final answer was 'no'.
